Meet Chris
Hello! Thanks for engaging with my application. If you like, you are welcome to skip my bio (most of which is already in my resumé) and go straight to the testimonials, which have been graciously written by people I respect too much to contradict.
I’m a strategic leader experienced in building culture, communications, and systems that empower teams to do their best work. From revitalizing a burned-out volunteer department to guiding our organization's crisis strategy during the pandemic, I’m in my sweet spot when I’m helping people thrive by showing them how their work truly matters, and then giving them the tools and structure they need to be effective.
In my last role, I stepped in to lead a rather weary volunteer department for a large downtown church and grew it from 60 disengaged volunteers to nearly 200 team players. Key achievements include:
Establishing a high-trust, recognition-oriented culture through a lot of listening, 1:1 feedback, culture-formation events, and open forums
Recruiting and mentoring high-performing team leads—I’m pleased to say I recruited plenty of people smarter than myself to assist the department!
Auditing value streams to align tasks with personal and community impact
Collaborating with external subject matter experts to proactively fill knowledge gaps
Leading crisis communications for a ~5,000-person audience through Covid
Training security teams in compassionate de-escalation strategies and techniques (which we had to use nearly every week, being downtown and open to the public)
Bootstrapping a new remote volunteer ministry in response to Covid that delivered 15,000+ wellness calls and thousands of dollars worth of groceries to those who were unwell
I’m now exploring roles in organizational development, culture-building strategy, or operations leadership where I can leverage my passion for culture-driven results, curiosity about virtually everything, and quick fluency in new fields. If you're looking to build a high-trust culture that elevates your people and gets results, let's connect!
OTHER STUFF I DO
I serve as a Certified Working Genius Facilitator, helping teams to redesign workstreams around their members’ intrinsic motivations rather than (solely) business necessity. (Turns out all the work still gets done, even if everyone loves their job. Authoritarians HATE this one trick!)
As a freelance composer and audio engineer, I’ve produced immersive soundtracks, sound design, and mixes for films, commercials, and live events of several thousand attendees. I also make music just for fun (usually EDM, DnB, or lo-fi) and to support friends who are making TV shows and need music to make their pitches more compelling (usually more cinematic).
I roast my own coffee when I have the time, using a janky but accurate roaster I made myself.
I live in Vancouver with my wife, two toddlers and a third little one on the way. Life is often loud, and tiring, but also VERY funny. We’re grateful.

“When the world slowed down in 2020, I had the opportunity to serve Westside Church by starting the Remote Help Ministry (RHM) under Chris’ leadership. Chris is a leader who listens, welcomes feedback, and is not afraid of constant changes so that processes can be streamlined, team morale boosted, and for the good of the end user. Once the vision of RHM was established, Chris gave me margin to communicate with the ministry team and to execute processes, all the while providing and always offering support. What I appreciate about Chris is that he leads with humility, humour, and thoughtfulness—it is a joy to work with and alongside Chris.”
